The Clean Slate
To place the lock on the hardware, the phone must be restored to its factory state. Over several years, a handheld device accumulates abandoned subscriptions, unread feeds, forgotten passwords, and habits you never intended to keep. Resetting the device removes every distraction at once, leaving only the bare machine.
The Trusted Friend
You choose one person—a partner, a sibling, a colleague, or an old friend—to hold the key. They do not monitor your daily activity, nor do they read your correspondence. They simply hold the final say whenever you ask to bring a new application onto the device or unlock a web address.
Dual Interception: Apps & the Web
When you download an application from the Play Store, the operating system suspends it immediately before it can open. It remains frozen until your partner reviews the request. Simultaneously, Google Chrome is locked to a strict allowlist. The open, infinite web is shut down; only websites you and your partner explicitly permit will load. The browser loophole is closed.
The Cooling-off Period
When you need an unapproved application or a new web portal, you submit a short note explaining why. Your partner can grant access for twenty-four hours, or approve it permanently. They may also decline the request entirely. Removing Pandora's Lid altogether works the same way: your partner confirms it, and the phone is released. Should they become unreachable, a seventy-two hour countdown releases it without them. Impulses wither when made to wait three days.
System Boundaries
Technical clarity without compromise.
We make no vague promises. These are the strict technical terms under which the software operates.
Pandora's Lid configures Android's Device Owner mode during initial setup. This establishes a hardware-grade foundation that cannot be uninstalled, force-stopped, or bypassed through safe mode—without ever granting corporate access to your private files.
Android requires Device Owner to be configured on a fresh machine before personal accounts are linked. While this means starting from a factory reset, your essential contacts, family photographs, and daily tools can be backed up beforehand and restored as soon as setup completes.
Pandora's Lid only inspects package identifiers and web addresses to enforce your agreed allowlists. It has neither the technical capability nor the permission to read your text messages, view private photos, track your location, or monitor your phone calls.
There is no central administration panel or master override key. We operate no cloud backdoor capable of overriding your partner. The agreement exists solely between you and the person you chose.
If your partner is travelling, unreachable, or you mutually agree to part ways, changing your nominated partner requires a seventy-two hour cooling-off period. This keeps the latch firm against late-night impulses while ensuring you are never permanently trapped.
Should you ever lose contact with your partner, you retain ultimate dominion over your physical machine. You can start an emergency break-glass relinquishment from the console. A strict seventy-two hour countdown begins, after which Device Owner mode and app restrictions release automatically—without wiping your personal data.
